Love Project

Meetings are held on the 2nd & 4th Monday each month in the Fellowship Hall.

Love Project is a group of people who make quilts for Lutheran World Relief (LWR) and other needy causes. Donated material of any kind is cut into squares either at home or at church when we meet. These squares are then sewed together for the quilt tops. All the layers of the quilt are put together, tied and then they are stitched around the outside edges. The filler is usually old blankets, mattress pads or bed spreads. Donations of these items are always appreciated.

A special quilt is make for the Hospice fund raising raffle. This one is hand quilted by some of the group that enjoying doing that. Baby quilts are made for LWR and for the hospital - for mothers that have nothing to take their new born baby home in. We give both baby and adult quilts to the local food shelf to be given to those in need. Quilts go to new owners of a Habitat home, and to families who have lost their home in a fire. A quilt is also made for the Northeastern Minnesota Synod Assembly silent auction each May. Lap robes are made for those in nursing homes. These are made by knitting or crocheting from yarn that has been donated.

Presently there are seven to twelve women who gather on the 2nd & 4th Monday to work on the quilts. There are several women who work at home on tops and cutting squares. We make an average of 200 quilts in a year (including baby quilts). A time for coffee follows the day's work and we have a good time talking and exchanging ideas.
